Sony struggling as Walkman hits 30th anniversary
When the Sony Walkman went on sale 30 years ago, it was shown off by a skateboarder to illustrate how the portable cassette-tape player delivered music on-the-go — a totally innovative idea back in 1979.

And used "music sharing" as a sales promotion. Why else was there two headphone jacks?

Walkman was such a brilliant idea, and obviously if it wasn't for the Walkman all those years ago, we wouldn't have Ipods today. But having used an ipod for the last six months, I honestly can't imagine ever using anything else. The functions are excellent, it does everything I want it to do, its sturdy and reliable, its not too expensive and it has huge capacity.
