Thumbs up Motorola Unveils Its First Andriod-Powered Smartphone Dext
Features social networking service Motoblur

Motorola has unveiled its first smartphone based on Andriod operating system, named Cliq in the US, and Dext around the globe. The new handset comes with a QWERTY keyboard, 3G, 3.1 HVGA touch screen, and a 5-megapixel camera. It also features a new social networking service called Motoblur.

The new Motoblur service synchronises contacts, posts, messages, photos from sources such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and Gmail, work and personal e-mail, and LastFM.

According to Motorola, the new handset also comes with GPS for turn-by-turn navigation, HTML browser, Wi-Fi and 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and 3.5mm headset jack. It also includes a music player with pre-loaded Amazon MP3 store application, Shazam, iMeem Mobile, and a pre-installed 2GB microSD memory card with support for up to 32GB of removable memory.

In addition, it also features multitasking capabilities and one-touch access to Google mobile services, including Google Search by voice, Google Maps with Street View, Youtube and Picasa. Users can mix and match thousands of applications and widgets from Motoblur, Android Market or pre-loaded Google mobile services.

Sanjay Jha, co-CEO of Motorola and CEO of Motorola Mobile Devices, said: “With Motoblur we are differentiating the Android experience for consumers by delivering a unique mobile device experience designed around the way people interact today. Motoblur, which will be available on our first Android-powered device and on multiple Android devices in our upcoming portfolio, helps us to create phones that are instinctive, social and smart.”

Motorola Cliq with Motoblur will be exclusively available in the US with Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile USA, and the Dext will be available through Orange in the UK, and France, Telefonica in Spain and America Movil in Latin America.
