Hi John,

Normally that is true, however, in my case, I install Firefox from the tarball into my system, and apparently in preferences both installed add-ons and search engines are checked, as is Firefox, but they are not grayed out like Firefox is - do you know a fix for this? I am running Ubuntu Karmic RC (Release Candidate) in its Live CD environment.

I suppose I could use Synaptic Package Manager to install Firefox 3.5.4 when it becomes available in the repositories, and then save the files into a custom tarball to install after reboots (artifact of reinitializing the Live CD environments after reboots).

I don't know a fix for that, I use Windows with FF, I steer clear of the tarpit!
