Start > Run to make your life easier in Windows
For those who don't know, you can use Start > Run to run programs, open folders and go to web sites, etc. It's sometimes quicker, as you don't need to go through Start > Programs > Accessories > etc . Also, won't need as many shortcuts to clutter up the Desktop.

Programs like Notepad, Paint, Calculator, etc.

To run:---------------------------->(Program names) Type:

*******************************************
NotePad-------------------------->NOTEPAD
Paint------------------------------->MSPAINT
Calculator------------------------->CALC
Windows Explorer----------------->EXPLORER (also Windows key + E)
Internet Explorer---------------->IEXPLORE
command prompt---------------->CMD or COMMAND
etc.

To find more of the program names, right click on the shortcut in the Start Menu and look at the path.

They can be run like this because they are in the Windows folder (Winnt/win32, etc) . I've also made mine able to run Photoshop by typing 'PS55' in the run dialogue by sticking a shortcut to Photoshop with that name in the Windows folder (tell me if that's bad coz i dunno).

To open a web site, just type the web address in the Run dialogue box and it'll open an IE Window or use one that's already open.

To open folders, just enter the path (i.e. C:\downloads\porn) . Or a drive (i.e. C: to open C drive)

Hope you find this helpful.

I am pretty sure you can run ant executable from the RUN button as long as it is defined in the path variable. Go to a command prompt and type path. You can pretty much add anything you want to the path statement.

You only want to put the root where the file exists in the path statement and not include the file itself.

I'm not completely sure what I did, but it worked.

And to run webpages from Run you can just type the address, but you have to start it with the Http://. Typing http: launches IE as well as iexplore.
There thought I'd add that.

Yeah, you can run anything so long as you type the whole path in but who'd wanna type all that?

Hmm...I can go to sites without typing the 'http://' on my machine.

To get the web page to run from the run menu you have to type either www. or http://

Just thought I'd throw in that .. (two periods) takes you to your Windows folders that contain the files to keep your pc working properly. Take care. angel

And . (one period) takes you to your desktop. Whoopie eh!
