Quick Search
If you don't have Quick Search go here and download IE 5.0 Web Accessories as it is part of that download.

Quick Search
This Web Accessory lets you reach the search engines of your choice faster than ever. For example, typing "av ActiveX" into the address bar launches a search with Alta Vista on the keyword "ActiveX." To activate this feature, select it from the links bar and then click on the "Save" button.

Follow the istructions below to add any search engine to this feature:

We're using some student-handy search engines as examples, so let's start with Information Please, chock-full of handy reference points for research papers. Launch your browser and go to the Information Please site. In the Search bar, type "replaceme" or "teststring." You'll get a Search Results window; copy the URL from the results to your clipboard.

Launch Quick Search. From the Quick Search window, click the "New" button. You're in a New Shortcut window. Come up with an abbreviation for your search engine-- for Information Please, we used INFO.

In the Search drop-down box, choose Custom Search. In the bottom URL box, paste the URL from the Search Results window. Look for your "replaceme" or "teststring" text, highlight it, and replace it with "%s". Your new URL should look like this: http://results.infoplease.com/search...ery=%s&in=all. (We replaced "query=replaceme" with "query=%s".)

Once the modified URL is in place, click the "Try it" button, or OK. Then hit the "Save" button in the Quick Search window. Now, when you want to use Information Please to look up, say, molecular structure, go to your Address bar and type: info molecular structure and click go.
