Increase Number of Registry Backups
I am using the new Xq-xsetupv6.2 tweak. It is far more complex than TweakUI (and therefore, potentially more damaging ).

There is one new option that appears to have merit: Instead of the 5 backups available in scanred /restore, it allows up to 99!

I have set my W98se to save 30 as an experiment. I have yet to try it on W2k. (If I mess up, why mess up both OS's? )

I will update as soon as I see any results. For example, I will track how many backups are actually saved. But I need your help: I can't remember where they are saved. Is it IN C:\windows\system? I would do a search but I can't remember the file extension either!

Backups
You can increase the backups past 5 but probably will not be able to access all of them. They are in Windows\Sysbckup.

To fully use them read these:

Hi PC,
Just missed you I guess! The extension is .DAT (system.dat & user.dat) in 98 I think. Not sure about 2000. Also if you increase the amount of backups then hard drive space is also taken. You might look here and here for win 2000 info.
Jim , found another: Here!!

This may sound kind of stupid, but since the 5th backup usually dont work when restoring, why would you want to have more than five??

You can still access the older ones, you just have to do a little more work to get to them.

I don't know if maybe it backs up the registry as .dat but, when you export the registry, ie make a manual backup it saves as a .reg file.
