Lightbulb Google's New Tricks
At google labs you may have seen google's voice search, keyboard shortcut google, and google glossary, but they just came out with 3 new tools a week or two ago.

1. Froogle Google allows you to type in your search terms, and it will display a bunch of catalouges containting the item you wanted, where you can buy it, the price, and the regular ad, which usually has a picture. The catalouges were scanned by volunteers and they used OCR text recognition.

2. Google Viewer shows your search results one at a time, along with a screen shot of the page. Fancy javascripts allow you to navigate through the results with buttons, or the mouse.

3. Google WebQoutes lets you search for a product or person, then it gives you quotes it finds about them. For example, if you search for Tech Support Guy, you would find "will answer questions about PC software, including Windows2000, but also maintains an archive of previously answered questions.." and A list of awards TSG has won

Hello Brendan,

The Google Viewer etc. terms of licence state:

" Furthermore, Google may share aggregate (not personally identifiable) Information with its business partners or other third parties. Google will not, however, knowingly disclose personally identifiable Information to third parties unless required to do so in order to comply with any valid legal process, such as a search warrant, subpoena, statute, court order, or if necessary or appropriate to address an unlawful or harmful activity."

This is one of the reasons I haven't downloaded the extras.
Isn't this a kind of tracking device? Please correct me if I am wrong.

To me, all that means is that they are not allowed to sell the info
"The following 11,000 people have searched for the term:computer" and give a list of names, IP addresses and such.

I think it means that they can say "11,000 People Searched for the term computer"
I think its so they can track search results, have a top 50 searches page, and their pagerank ranking also requires to be able to count the number of people that search for something and get a certain result.

Thumbs down Google
It was a week or two ago, I used google to find a software, the result page had a link to "downloadalot" site.

After clicking on the link my home page was changed to that site and there were number of entries in my favourite’s folder.

Should’ve known better! The funny thing is that I was looking to download Spybot search & destroy and other utilities (spam removal, spy ware and such...)

Any recommendation on spam remover? I always get lot of them after visiting this one site (not going to mention till I'm sure)
Formatted and re-installed winblows twice in the last month (motherboard changes) the last time I forgot to save my favourites folder and had links for forwarding spam emails that I can not find any more?! Still looking though.

Think I’m going to like this place!

Remover ? don't know of such an animal. But, probably the best app we recommend here at TSG (for dealing with spam eMail) is MailWasher - and it's free. Do a search (here at TSG) on...
mailwasher
If you read some of the threads you will get a lot of information about how it works, etc., and the download location.

( Get Spybot from... http://security.kolla.de/ )

Welcome to TSG!
Slithy is giving you good advice so follow through and be careful in the future. There are so many sites now that contain scripts that can change your system settings or worse yet cause a great deal of problems. Make sure you have a good Antivirus program running and keep it up to date. Also another good tip is to limit the Install on demand function. Here is a recent link where another member got stuck with Gator software again and they did little but visit a page.

Take Care.

Dave

PS: Free Antivirus program and it is good.
