Windows Messenger
<body bgcolor="#000000">
Many Windows XP users recieved a prompt to what you thought was a new version of Windows Messenger but turned out to be MSN Messenger 5.0. If you have uninstalled MSN 5 and reverted back to Windows Messenger 4.7 then its likely that even though you have checked it in the Preferences Windows Messenger won't log you automatically when it detects that your connected to the Internet. To solve this...

Right click the Windows Messenger icon in the system tray and click Exit on the shortcut menu.
Click Start and then Run and type "RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove" without the quotation marks
Confirm any prompts to uninstall Windows Messenger.
Go to http://messenger.msn.co.uk/default.asp?client=0 and click download a new copy to your computer
