I think I should just point out that this will close any active IE window, not just popups, and if you do it on an AIM instant message you get the font selection dialog

Another way if you have Norton firewall is to go into advanced options and select "Block Scripted" Pop ups, I think it is under "Active content" tab I'll have to check at home if you can't find it.

This will prevent most pop ups, but you have to remember to disable it when you click on a link that has a pop up (you'll know because nothing will happen when you click on it).

Other fire walls may have a similar option.

Hi All!

ALT+F4 also works well for most popups. It kills the active window. Some sneaky popups offer a [X] or [close] button but doing so only opens a link or some such crap you don't want to see. I find that ALT+F4 avoids this and kills the app directly.
