Test your e-mail vulnerability
http://www.gfi.com/emailsecuritytest/
It's a good idea to make sure that your computer is protected from the different types of viruses and threats that exist. You may think that you're protected from potential viruses because you use some sort of anti-virus software. But how can you really tell?

This site will test your e-mail's vulnerability and let you know of any weaknesses. Just enter your name and e-mail address. After you receive a confirmation e-mail, click on the URL provided. GFI then performs a vulnerability check of your e-mail system. You receive the results by e-mail. Now, keep in mind that this company sells software to protect you from threats. But you don't need to buy anything for the test.

Being reasonably new at computers I found this test virus a good way to learn how my AV worked: http://www.rexswain.com/eicar.html

Thanx for that link franca!

I figured I was safe, and test proved it.

xgerryx - The test franca linked to also includes the eicar test virus.

Yeah, I thought it was such a great link, I've mailed loads of people with it, as well as an explanation of how it works.

Just for anyone's benefit on how they can be protected from these nasties, Keep your windows and office updates current. That and an up-to-date AV package will see you safe.

I got hit by the Bugbear.B 6 times on the 5th, and thankfully Outlook security denied access to it, saving me. It wasn't till much later that Norton had an updated dat file to catch it!

I just ran the tests and I failed a couple of them according to the emails that I got. Has anyone downloaded their demo program? What does it do..how good is it and is it user friendly???
Thanks.

Thanks...I knew about the Windows updates, but not Office updates. Would it be sufficient to update the latest entry that is listed or should I go back to the very beginnig?

For Office Updates, best to start at SP1, then so on. add in the single ones whenever you like. MS makes it easy enough by stating which ones you can and can't upgrade to till you get its prerequisites
