Follow the instructions for replacing your current blacklist within the above mentioned products.
For Mailwasher which keeps its blacklist in a Notepad .txt file easily located by clicking Help\About\link provided to it within the mailwasher program window see instructions below because the text file is larger than the parameters allowed for just copying.
Step 1-Once located create a copy of it and paste elsewhere in case of problems.
Step 2- Next rename the current Blacklist.txt file Oldblacklist.txt
Step 3- Copy\paste the whole "Junk Sendors.txt" file to the same location as Oldblacklist.txt
Step 4- Now open Oldblacklist.txt and copy its contents
Step 5- Open the "Junk Senders.txt file and paste the copied there.
Step 6- Once copied make sure the Statement [blacklisted Emails] notation is moved to top of list and the space created in middle of notepad by pasting is removed.
Step 7- Once list is combined with your current list and edited then click file\save.
Step 8- Last step is to rename "Junk Senders.txt" too Blacklist.txt
You should be able to go to Mailwasher\help\about and click link to view your new compiled list.
Note: There is also a June 3 Update to the master list. If you download, unzip you will be able to paste the contents of its text file to the top of your master list in mailwasher.
Take care
Dave

Today there was none!
So nice to open mailwasher and find only items I wish to see!

I go through the motions and when I open Mailwasher and open the Blacklist.txt file, mailwasher keeps displaying the old one and deleting the new one I just made with the Junk mail file, and yes, I am renaming it.

Sadly to say Win98,98SE and WinME has a 32000 charature limitation in notepad text files. Being so mailwasher has a limitation in itself. Why the file transfer worked OK for one day on my machine WinME as a wordpad I am not sure. However when Mailwasher was shutdown and restarted the file reverted back to original.
Bottom line here We with the common OS's are left out!
Shame!!!!
Will change Thread posting to reflect limitation.
Also if you exceed the maximum using the wordpad option then mailwasher will hang-up!!
Jessica
Outlook uses a txt file also where OE uses the registry which could be altered but would be a huge increase to the file. Would not suggest using it as such.
Lastly
Will continue on working this problem but at this time it does not look good due to Txt file\OS limitations.
Sorry
Dave

| Hi again Davey. For purposes of coding HTML I have "NOTEPAD+" installed which eliminates the above-mentioned limitation, but it still doesn't work. | Oops, sorry Randy: missed your post. Same here. I have notepad+ on dual platform - W98se/W2K - and it's the same deal. I run primarily on W2K. | | Distinguished Member with 8,052 posts. | | Join Date: Jun 2000 Location: American living in Dublin, Ireland Experience: Advanced |

I had sincere hopes for this process after it worked for 2 sessions. However upon restart mailwasher reinstated the original file. I to used Metapad and wordpad to create a .txt which is probably why it worked for a bit until a mailwasher restart. Anyway I am going to explore this further over the weekend to see if there are work around to this.
After realizing mailwashers shortcomings which in my opinion are significant I dug around at their site and found this FAQ: http://www.mailwasher.net/faq.php#_Q._Big_blacklists
The above mention FAQ link specifies Win98, 98SE and WinME as problem OS's but doesn't list XP or 2000. I presume the limitation is a FAT 32 Table 32bit limitation and not OS specific.
Anyway Sorry about raising expectations here but it sure would be nice to incorporate a complete list!
Again let me dig a bit more and research this. Maybe there is a way around it.
You know one would think that these spam blocking programs would realize the limitations of using a text file and nowadays with these random spam generators the listing are bound to grow exponentially.
Seems if mailwasher does not change its blacklist filing method their program will grow obsolete quickly as more text files reach their max capacity.
Take care
Dave

#13 | Dave,
to be fair to Mailwasher crew . . .
their latest update is not freeware, and they have gone the way of making money, which is their right.
It's quite possible that they have incorporated the larger Blacklist size in their new product.
Besides, it's not a huge bother, as most of the spam i get is by the ones I already have blacklisted, and any new ones get the entire domain added, at this stage.
i don't needs thousands of "possible" blacklists.
BTW, do you have your options set to autodelete?
I ask because hotmail is one of the biggest abused email accounts, but is also widely used by people I like. If I set Mailwasher to autodelete, I might miss a new mail from one of these guys, who I haven't already added.
Anyway, if there's a way around the blacklist limitation, I'd like to hear about it, if you find it. Otherwise, I'm not gonna lose sleep over it!

#14 | Hello Randy and Davey:
I had not thought about file systems. Though I run mainly on W2K, I have it installed on FAT32.
I had thought that the file size limitation was a problem within Mailwasher itself, as I have mentioned in an earlier post, I do not use the original notepad, but notepad+, which is third party software and does not have the MS notepad file size limitation. I believe MS notepad maxes out at 44kb (close enough as not matter) but notepad+ handles one of my HTML files of 117kb length without any problems.
Side question: Mailwasher gives notice when it can't bounce spam because the header is either forged or missing. But there is one spam I get on a daily basis that mailwasher marks as bounced, but returns every day. Is spam starting to ignore bounce notices? That would be a nasty turn of events.

#15 | Everyone list what your OS is and what version of Mailwasher you have.
Windows 98 with MailWasher 1.29
No spam but have new ISP so it is nice.
Note I have not added to the blacklist the file above but the list I have now is 70KB and open in Wordpad because it is no big for Notepad.
