Nice Cleaning Utility (freeware)
Here's another cleaning utility that seems to do a fairly in depth job. It located many items, even after running Norton. There's a back-up feature, a send to Recycle Bin feature, and even a permanently delete feature.

It's worth a look.

The question is, does the machine boot after cleaning all this extra stuff!

I have not found an option for that yet. It does place itself in the start up lists by default, and runs when you load Windows. I stopped that however.

Perhaps after heavy cleaning, one might have to manually re-boot.

This does seem to do an in-depth scan though. Seems pretty nice, especially for the price

After a second look, I noticed that a link to re-boot the computer appears after you run the QuickClean option. So to answer your question...well... kind of

Thanks for the link. It's looks like a good utility. I'll wait until next month when they come out with the updated version before I download it.

***PLEASE READ***

Well, my apologies to who ever installed this utility. I lost several options from my right-click menu, from the All programs menu and God knows what else. mI have been using the back-up feature in the program to restore most of what was lost.

I can only assume the testing period was brief at best.

The strange part is I lost them using the "zero bite" part of the utility.

Would have thought that part would have been fool-proof. Zero bites should equal zero data...No??

Goes to prove the independent back up schemes are the only ones worth a darn.

I am finally getting my back up system into high gear. Will be doing a large over all one and then a bunch of smaller targeted ones. Smaller ones to ZIP's so they will be less painful to do.

My machine is coming on four years old. Can't have too many back ups. I won't lose any data, but I dread trying to recreate the state of the present machine. Also doing a ZIP of all "As Loaded" programs. Just think of losing all your bookmarked Favorites.

You don't know what you have until you lose it.

Once I think I have the back up thing totally under control, am going to do the cleaning thing. I have never had to clean wipe or reload in four years. Easy does it.

Probably should have a thread with all the precautions and back ups and preparations one should think about before trouble strikes. Still not sure I am there yet. Reading some of these posts of folks in trouble has made me rethink a few things.
