Lightbulb Advanced Customization of Win2K
I am in the process of giving my computer a make over without using "heavy-on-the-resources" programs like Windowshades. One of the little things I did was to change my startup and startup w/ chkdsk screens. That was easy. If you want to do this yourself, Here is the link to the Little White Dog Forum and Gallery where I found out how to do this and found a cool startup screen (BTW, SVT Cobra rocks!!)

Now I'm looking to change the other bitmaps that windows uses, like the "enter username and password" dialog pic and others. So far I only found the "Start menu" side pic. Its in Explorer.exe. But of course that cant be changed cause explorer is always running and can not be overwritten.

Is there anyone else out there that is doing the same thing or has successfully completed? Post and let me know about it. Any other extreme mods you want to show off? Feel free to post those too!

I think in Windows 2000 and XP, you press Ctrl-Alt-Del then chose task manger...look in the Processes tab and end the EXPLORER.EXE. Then the start menu and the desktop will be gone and only the current programs running will show. Then in task manager, goto File and choose New Task(Run)...then browse to find the program file for your hacking utilty or whatever but only do that if your hacking program isnt already open. hope this helps. What program are you using anyway?

Thanx for the input, DevilsJim. I am going to have to try that when I get ambitious

As for your question, I use Resource Hacker™ Version 3.4.0 coded by Angus Johnson

If anyone wants to know more about this software or maybe download a copy, here is the link -->ResHack<--

THIS PROGRAM IS NOT A TOY!! Improper use of this program can result in damage to your system, data loss and could go as far as requiring a Format/Reinstall to fix. IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT IT DOES, LEAVE IT ALONE!!----My two cents

Wow, Great site. Very complete. Zero's in on alot of XP proformance and interface tweaks for XP. I wish they had a section on Win2K though.

Grendal, do you know any sites like this one that focus on Windows 2000 Pro?
