I have one of my pc's (Dell PowerEdge I've configured as a desktop until I decide precisely what type of server I want -- a winter project of sorts.)

Does anyone have a good tutorial on ftp/gaming and/or mail server config?

If not, I'll toss it to my "to do" list.

Edit: I can tell you servers don't typically come with some expected hardware components as standard. Example: mine had no sound card.

Edit #2: Check with your isp and make certain they allow servers. Mine does but I need to pay business premium $100 + USD/month. You may really not want one then

I don't have to check now. I'm not paying that kind of money just to fool around. But it would be nice just to see how it works. and what ya could do with it. That's something I don't know nothing about. It sounds so cool to work with.

I think that that extra cost is only for the extra bandiwdth that the server would need...you could run a server with less bandwidth, it would just be very slow for the end users...
