finally solved a strange problem where my Internet connectivity would go away after a while,...and a reboot was all that would fix it.

Roadrunner tech support tried a few things and a search of the Net didn't yield any answers.

finally by luck, while looking at the Nic cards advanced properties, I saw that a feature called "wake on APM" was enabled. I don't use any power management stuff other than a monitor timeout, but somehow the Nic card was going to sleep if not used for a while and a reboot would wake it up. Now that the feature is disabled I am working fine again.
