Not Computer Related--BUT
This, if the idea works, could save someone time and money. A friend sent this to me and I am sharing with you.
Hope you never have this happen to you!!
Subject: Very Helpful Information........

Always have fun, life is to short!!!

Subj:LOCKED OUT? TRY THIS?

This only applies to cars that can be unlocked by that remote button on
your key ring. Should you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys
are home, and you don't have "OnStar," here's your answer to the
problem!

If some one has access to the spare remote at your home, call them on
your cell phone (or borrow one from someone if the cell phone is locked
in the car too!)

Hold your (or anyone's) cell phone about a foot from your car door and
have the other person at your home press the unlock button, holding it
near the phone.

Your car will unlock. and it works. Saves someone from having to drive
your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of
miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for
your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk, or have the "horn"
signal go off, or
whatever!)

Hi buf....That's very neat and I am going to get a chance to try it...the 24/7 service station the wife works at has people lock themselves out all the time!
Now if we can get one that has their phone on 'em...
and someone at home that has their phone near them..., and if the one at home can find the other remote ...
I will post back what happens.
I have watched the local garage guy struggle for hours sometimes and he uses a pro opener kit with a suitcase full of gadgets to get locked doors open. Amazing how much stranded travelers will pay him... Maybe I can save them some $ and make them donate to the site here.

Always on the lookout for a good tip, I gave this one a try. Didn't work with any of the three vehicles...Toyota, Ford or Mercury. I was in the house on the home phone and my boyfriend was with the three vehicles in the driveway...a distance of maybe 50 feet. We tried all three vehicles numerous times. No go on any of them. Guess we can file this one under "Urban Legends". Would have been handy if it had worked! Would be interested if anyone else gives this a try and what their outcome is.

PS: Turns out it is an urban legend. You can read about the legend and why it doesn't work here:

im pretty shure that you got bad intel.
all the cell phone can do is transmit sound from the original key to the phone you are holding next to your locked car, the remote locks work with RF in the low 300 mhz range.

Maybe the idea was started by a struggling cell service provider! Not too many of them struggling by the looks of their stock numbers...
Side note: my kid bought two wireless phones and somehow thought that the service was available 30 miles east where his g/f works...nope, we are right on the edge of service area, and about 5 miles east it stops! One phone got broken and returned...

I'm just surprised nobody has made a "brute force" OnStar remote. Now THAT would be scary.

For any car that is yours, find a long thin as possible screw driver, right at the look point, put the screw driver down the inside of the door, where there is rubber, just fold the rubber back if you dont want to hurt the rubber , and push it down, it will pop the look the good old fashioned way without hurting your cars internals or externals.

Or use a brick

That used to work real good. I was a used car dealer for years and had a flat, one inch wide, eighteen inch long piece of metal with different cuts on each end. Some cars you had to hook and pull, others just push down. However, nowadays they have made mucho changes in door mechanisms, and sometimes you might near have to tear the door off to get it unlocked!
