Detecting bad hard drives
I ran across a few posts over the weekend that may have had bad HD. I didn't know how to answer them so I called Maxtor. I asked the tech how we can find out if we have a bad HD. He told me that all we have to do is go to Maxtors Web site and DL and install to a floppy "Max Blast 3." The just boot to the floppy and run the first 3 tests. If you get an error, we can call them and they will tell us what's wrong. It also does a low low level format which writes O'S to the whole HD. I asked if this would work with another manufacture and he said it is probably better to go to who ever made your HD and get the tools from them. Here's their toll free number. 1-800-262-9867 The tech advise is free!
