Cool Printing list of files?
Greetings all!

I am looking for a way to print, or copy & paste to MS Word, a list of file names on several CD's that I have saved files to. Is there any way to accomplish this? Any tips would be appreciated!

jhmalone,

Welcome to TSG!

Open a DOS window, navigate to your CD drive and type the following command:

dir /b > c:\list.doc

Then open the list.doc file.

You can, of course, change the location and name of the file created.

Key:

dir: Generates a list of the files and folders in the directory.
/b: Use a 'bare' format ( Only file names).
>: Redirects the output (in this case, redirected to the file: c:\list.doc).
c:\list.doc: The location and file name where the information is to be redirected to.

Man this worked great!
I REALLY appreciate it!

I'm pretty good at naming my files correctly, but I had to print a directory of the docs I had on several DVD's-that's a BUNCH of Word files - you saved me several hours of DULL work!

How can I repay you? You just let me know and it's done!

You tha Man, uh I mean the Rat!

Thanks again!

I use a program called Print Directory, which allows me options and will sve the file. Also, am using a WONDERFUL program called Total Commander which will do the same thing. Since I can't stand Windows Explorer, I find that Total Commander allows me access to FTP, double screens (so I can see/compare/move files, etc. from one drive/directory to another and a ton of other things, including viewing .nfo files, etc.
