i dont know were to post this at but i was wondering if it would be better to shut your computer off if you were only coming back to it a hour later or to just keep in running?

It boils down to personal preference, some pc's are left running 24/7 with no problems. Could be a bit like an old taxi, the engine has less cold starts than the average car so the motor lasts a lot longer.

It possible it will go into "stand by" or even turn its self off, but these things can be set to suit you. What is your operating system 98, ME,Xp or ?

Right click a blank area of your desktop and click properties>click screensaver tab then the power button just above cancel & reply.
You can set these settings to suit yourself. I have mine all set to never.

that cool so hibernate keeps every thing as you left it and standby just keeps power to your memory

Sorry to break into this thread, but I have a question...
Is it better to put your computer on "stand-by" or "hibernate"? over night?
Any suggestions?

I think that will be a personal preference. Read the link posted in #11. It explains the difference quite well.

Edit: Why92 has explained it quite well.

Something to consider..
This may be a shot in the dark, but is there a way to set your computer to come out of hiberation? If such a thing or command exists?
In other words, you keep it in hibernation all night and for it to turn itself on out of hiberation at a set time...like an alarm clock, if you can say...
Does that exist or do I just press that flicking button....
