A Good Way To Save Yourself from a Win98 Crash
Hey Gang,

Maybe you've heard of this, maybe you haven't. But before you hit hte CNTL, Alt, Del buttons or if you have and it didn't work, press F5, Refresh. Sometimes that's all you need to unfreeze a computer,

Nice trick, unfortunately since I installed Unofficial Service Pack 2.1 for w98SE I won't have the occasion to test your trick very often anymore.

Hahaha.
If statistics are to be believed, about 20% of us still use 98.

Windows 98 isn't crappy. Its only real drawback is that it crashes frequently. When XP came out it cost $400.00. Plus no software was compatible with it. Plus you had to get everything updated. Plus you had to relearn all new software.

Now all the bugs in XP have been worked out and everything's compatible with it. And the price is about $50.00, not $400. But now everybody's gearing up for Longhorn. Just think in 5 years we all will have to go through the whole thing again, and again, and again.....

Such is the logic of 'keeping up with the Jones's"

The only feature I'd like to have native to 98 is system recall but I already have that by using Norton GoBack.

I'm afraid I'll stay with 98 until there's a good reason to switch...

(BTW, Microsoft's reputation for releasing new OS's isn't exactly spotless. Witness: Windoze ME )

Which updates to you check for just the crash protector? I just installed the whole thing and my computer started dragging and I had difficulty getting online.

Thank God for GoBack

I've tried the 'Unofficial Service Pack' in the past on fresh installs, but all I got for my efforts was a blue screen on rebooting. Thank goodness for Drive Image

Win98se has worked well for me with the computer I use on-line and I probably won't move up till I buy a new/newer computer that's pre-loaded with XP or whatever.

I think 98se works well if you keep crapware off it and keep up on the updates.
