Solved: licensed copy question
say you are at work, you have to install xp pro on two hundred computers, you set it up for an unatteded install but you don'thave access to the volume licenced copy of xp. but you do have the volume license key. so you go to the store an buy a copy of xp, but to your demise the install stops and prompts you for the key, so you type in the volume license key you have from your company and it says invalid license key. what do you do? you need to finish the install on all two hundred computers.

yeah that's pretty kewl, but my question was what do you do if the volume license copy isn't acessible and you try to use a store bought version of xp and type in the volume license key provided by your company and it doesn't work.

that's alright, the link was pretty kewl.. I'm just looking for a specific answer mainly because this was a question i saw on a test and it made me think, what if that happened. legally what would be the best choice. Can you call microsoft for a fast solution? or do you have to use a copy of the licensed volume xp? what if you had a deadline and you couldn't get your hands on the licensed copy? what can you do?

You need to find your volume license copy. Contact your Microsoft sales or technical rep if you lost it and can't find it. An off-the-shelf copy isn't going to work for you.

The VLK, Retail, and OEM versions of Windows all have unique key sequences.

You are a very slow study! I told you not to post it, so you go right ahead and quote it. Remember the warning I gave you before, apparently you didn't think I was serious.

John, maybe it would be best if you go ahead and remove my thread, i don't want anyone getting the wrong ideas from this. Besides my question has been answered, you have to have a volume license copy. I'll mark this thread as solved. thanks for the replies.
