Windows 98 Performance Tip
I found this in "THE INTERNET TUTOR", a News Letter that I subscribe to. Don't know if it works or not, but those still using Windows 98 might want to give it a try.

COMPUTER TIPS - Windows 98 Performance Tip

Windows 98 has some internal settings from the days when RAM (Random
Access Memory) was expensive. These settings are largely obsolete
today, and can even slow down your computer. Try this:

1) Right-click My Computer
2) Choose Properties > Performance > File System.

If that is set for "Desktop Computer" - and if your PC has more than
32MB of RAM - it will operate slightly faster if you:

3) Select Network Server instead of Desktop Computer (it doesn't have
to be a server to use that setting).

and is true to the best of my knowledge. Any decisions to follow
this advice is your responsibility. Your computer, your choice.
