a handy trick
dont know if anybody tried this. In Linux, u can start apps by typing its name in the box that comes up when u press Alt+F2. u can do the same in Windows with Win key+R that brings up the Run command. just place a shortcut of the app u want to run in the System folder in 98 or System32 folder in XP/2000. just type whatever name u give to the shortcut in the Run box and click OK.
i found this a lot handy when there r lots of apps, and some which i use frequently. u also dont have to clutter ur Desktop with shortcuts or elongate ur Start menu with the same.
