Situation: I was having a really bad time trying to get Word97 to print a file on my HP DeskJet 932C inkjet printer. The file would spool to the Print Manager, then via a USB cable to the DeskJet which would start to print and then stop when the Win98SE system would freeze. This happened too many times to count while I was trying all the tricks and fixes I could think of including, but not limited to, physically disconnecting and reconnecting the printer, removing and reinstalling the printer drivers, removing and reinstalling Word97 -- but I stopped short of reinstalling Win98SE. Nothing worked. And I was facing a deadline.

Resolution: Why not bypass the problem rather than solve it? Why not try copying the contents of the file to the clipboard and then paste them to a new file in WordPad? The file was simple: 9 lines with 39 words in color plus one small clipart color-image. Would WordPad handle it? Yes it did; like a champ. With a few minor adjustments to the margins, I was able to print the entire job with no more hitches.

Moral: When in a Word-panic, try WordPad.

P.S.: There are a great many more things I could say about this experience, but Bill Gates would not like to hear them and he never listens to me anyway.
