I have been told by several techs that the 49 dollar me upgrade would not run proper.that everytime it was installed they had to uninstall for multiple problems.I took a amd k6-2\450 with 128 m ram and a 6.4 gig hd.set the hard drive to one partition.formatted and installed windows 98.then did the promotional upgrade.it is running like a champ.no problems.been running for 2 weeks. hope this helps.

For more information, the promotional upgrade is exactly the same as the more expensive version except it will only accept win98 or win98se as proof of upgrade while the more expensive one will accept win95 as well. Also, you did not have to install win 98 first. The upgrade disk will do a clean install you just have to put in the win 98 disk when it asks for proof of upgrade.

Yo Frenat, you say one needs to just pop in Win98SE CD when it asks for proof of purchse?I tried to install the fullME upgrade on top of W98se and it said I had to in stall something or other...I forget now; but do you think I could just pop in W98se and it would finish installing?/
