I lost all my sound. The Taskbar Speaker Icon is missing. In Control Panel, Sounds and Multimedia the Volume control is at mimimun and can't move, and taskbar check box is dim. Some sounds can be heard very faintly at the speaker.. Puter is HP Pavilion 8275, PentiumII, with Me Op sys.
The little card the speaker is plugged into is an Ensoniq Power Amplifier..It worked fine until I rebooted.....Help

Hi,

*right-click *My Computer-*Properties-*Device Manager-*click X next to Sound(etc.)-and if you see a yellow exclamation point, delete it and Reboot.

Try this Start.... Settings.... Control panel.... Add remove programs... Windows setup.. Multi midia.... Details... uncheck volume control... Reboot and go back and recheck it.. It will ask for your win 98 disk though.. All this will do is reinstall it...

PROBLEM SOLVED... Thanks for your response. While going thru your suggestion, which didn't change anything I remembered the main reason I upgraded to Windows Me a few months ago.. It has something called System Restore. You can restore your system back to what it was at previous checkpoints. I went back 4 days(my sound trouble started 2 days ago and BINGO My sound is back..
