Record your Hard Disk's Health
Here's something that I never noticed before, hopefully it'll be useful for others too. The new SpeedFan (don't know exactly when it was added), has a nice feature to get a complete report about the SMART status of your hard disks. If you select the SMART tab in SpeedFan, you get a listing of the SMART parameters for the disk in the drop-down box. If you click on the "Perform an in-depth online analysis of this hard disk" button, you'll see a very nice report of the disk's overall health. the second graphic is a typical example, you'll have to click on it to get a clear copy.

Thank you, JohnWill. No telling how long that has been in front of me and I haven't seen it. Good tip! Thanks

I don't know how long it's been there, I just noticed it the other day.

I used it to get a snapshot of all my drives on all the systems. Now, I can take on later and compare the readings to see if a drive is going south.

Mine looks just about like yours John. The seek time is better on mine but I just defraged my drive too.

I think the fact that the drive I picked is part of a RAID-0 Array may have fooled the SMART a bit...

good find. A guy in France thought he was having hard disk issues and I sent this to him. He ran it and the hard drive got a clean bill of health. I told him to post his HJT to security "massifnature" and close the HD thread. He may well go back to HD later, but he is dirty.
