Thumbs up Free Microsoft Scanner
I don't know how long this free Microsoft scanner has been around but I just found out about it from a forum on CNET. It's called Windows Live OneCare. It does a virus - spyware scan, a scan for invalid registry entries, a scan for temp files, a scan of ports and checks to see if you need a disk defrag and will do that if you need it. It's compatible with Windows XP/2000/2003 and Internet Explorer. It's a good scanner and you should try it out ...

For me the scanner found 93 invalid registry entries and didn't display what the entries were. I did had a choice whether or not to delete them. A System Restore point was automatically created before the entries were deleted.

Idle thoughts
Hello Joe,

I suppose I was disappointed to read that the cleaning software/freeware was not for WinME. Then I felt relief on reading the other posts.

But haven't I read somewhere, quite recently, that Microsoft has announced that they will be conducting a thorough and ongoing investigation of PC software fraud? Something free may be as good a way as any.

Cheers.

Ben.
