you will find no shortage of software available to you that is geared towards minimizing your exposure to the tools and tricks of hackers who want to steal your identity.

That being said, IMHO they best tool available to you is already a part of your system. It just remains to be seen if you will properly utilize it.

I am referring to your head. No software can really prevent you from making bad choices as you surf the internet.

It is best if you treat every situation you encounter on the internet as being suspicious.

Do not blindly click on every link that you see. Be suspicious!!

Beware of free applications, chance are they are free for a reason.

If you did not initiate contact with an application or email, treat it and any links as though they were the dreaded Ebola virus.

Never ever ever ever give out personal information. Especially if you did not initiate things yourself.

Do not allow fear or greed to push you into responding to any emails requesting information

The best identify-theft prevention program is your brain. Be careful and use common sense. Don't click on links in e-mail, don't open e-mail attachments, etc.
