Update your software
Go here and download the program. You'll have to provide an email address for it. Just give it a fake one.

http://catchup.cnet.com

Install it, then run it. It finds updates for all the software on your computer. Even stuff you wouldn't find on windows update website for your OS. Make sure you use the security update one too.

Webhead,

It sure sounds like a nice little download/utility.
For reasons I know not, I can download it and it gets to 99% of the "please wait while Installshield extracts the files requiered" and just seems to freeze up, Oh well.

Hey, Dark Star - mine did the same thing. I had to end task on Iexplore for some reason to get it to run...

Thanks for the link, WebHead!

Hi angel,

Thanx for the reply, I didn't think to end task on iexplore, I did end task on a couple of other enties relative to the download just to get rid of the "frozen box" etc.
So, how did the utility work out for you?
I was (thinkin' 'bout) going back in an pursue the download once again.

Make sure you have all browsers closed when installing. I had same problem first time I used it. Once it hits 100% it then brings up a browser to run the program, so if a browser is already open it will cause it to sit there at 99%.

catchup
Catchup is a great program to find updates on everything in your system.... HOWEVER..... be very careful that you dowload for YOUR operating system as it does show list of all OP systems updates at one time.

Do you think that this utility will "sniff out" any unregistered software?

It doesn't ask where you got it or how... it only offers you updates on it

Catchup works find for me.

Also you can go here to " CNET Subscription Center" and get the CatchUp.com Dispatch newsletter.

I have been getting the letters the last 18 months. You get about 2 a month from them.
They tell you when there are new updates and give you info. like this last one here.

"Patch Available for Internet Explorer Vulnerabilities

Microsoft has released a patch that eliminates three security
vulnerabilities in Microsoft Internet Explorer: the Zone Spoofing
vulnerability, the HTTP Request Encoding vulnerability, and a new
variant of the Telnet Invocation vulnerability. These
vulnerabilities could allow a malicious user to compromise IE
security settings or redirect users to unknown Web sites. The
vulnerabilities affect Internet Explorer versions 5, 5.5, and 6.

Run CNET CatchUp Security Fixes to determine your vulnerability:

Click here to read the Microsoft Security Bulletin:
http://two.digital.cnet.com/cgi-bin2...2tbA0JP0epr0Ao
"

Plus I could never get the Norton Web Services to work so you could get updates from them and guess they gave up because they now have CatchUp at there site too.

CatchUp is a good program...sometimes the installs are difficult though... I don't think you'll have any trouble with that though... however as I mentioned before... make sure before you click the download button that it is for your operating system.
I was able to get some updates there I couldn't get in Microsoft...

Question:
I'm getting very close to the purchase of a new computer...
However money is a key factor in what I am able to buy.
I wonder what to do ... which is more user friendly & will endure me ( yes I said endure me )...lol ... the longest.
XP is new & interesting ...
2000 is considered ..
what do you think??

sacoite
press ctrl-alt-del at the same time and a box will open up with programs that are running. Highlight Internet Explorer and click 'End Task'

BTW it is a great program, I have been using it for a while.
