reduce the size of JPG images

JPG Cleaner is simple but powerful utility for cleaning JPG files
from anything that is not picture data. Commonly used
programs such as Adobe Photoshop are writing additional
information into JPG file that isn't needed for correctly
displaying the picture and this program will remove it, thereby
reducing the file size sometimes significantly. (We tested it
and saved 260 kb on 90 files)

Thanx hewee, I'll give it a try and report back what effects it had.

I use a lot of jpeg's in my work, and would ove to see somethig reduce the size, without affecting the quality of the image.

Okay I'll try it, I've tried everything else short of an indian raindance so hold down the shift key can't hurt at this point.

Lets us all know how it works. It is real small to. Do you even need to install it or can you just run it?
Been wanting to try it on a couple images that only open in some image programs for what ever reason. The others say not right file type or something like that. I can use a progran that will open them and then go to save-as and the the new saved file will open in the progran that would not open it before. So it most be the other code that JPG Cleaner up. Plus I bet even all the 1000's of other images I have I can a couple MB cleaned up.

It downloads as a zip file, and you can unpack it to a folder, or run it from winzip.

I ran it on some pictures that I took with my Sony Mavica, and have changed around using IrfanView. Nothing was cleaned from them at all, because no additional tags get attached to the jpg with either of those.

- Texts such as File written by Adobe Photoshop, Creator: PolyView(R) Version
3.32 by Polybytes, LEAD Technologies Inc. V1.01
- Picture previews (sometimes even bigger than main JPG data!)
- Color Management data
All this data is useful only when opening the file in program that created it. Other programs such as Internet Browsers are just skipping this data, so the data is downloaded ant then thrown away! Just use this program when publishing JPG files on the Internet and your JPG files become smaller (if they contain non-picture data) with NO QUALITY LOSS.

I did run it on a jpg that was downloaded with a sound clip, and that was stripped of something liek 33 bytes.

I guess this thing would be great for people who download a lot of general graphics, or use graphics packages mentioned above. I ran all my jpg's through the cleaner and saved no space at all. It is harmless at any rate, so I will keep it just in case it comes in handy later, like when I get loads of graphics from others for my work.

Thanx for the tip......... Holding down the shift key while you click on shutdown does keep it from hanging.

Ain't it grand how we can take care of more than one thing in one thread?

It sounds like JPG Cleaner may come in handy down the road at any rate since you now have it you might as well keep it, I know you work with quite a bit of graphics anyway.

Guess you could get into holding the shift key down on every shut down in case there is a need for it then you are ahead of the game.

Well unzipping it does not mean you have to install it. Does it work without installing is what I mean.


Maybe there was not code to remove or the program only removes the code on the other program it was made to work with.

What was the size of the file that you stripped 33 bytes from?

Ok thanks I was thinking because the program was so small that there was no install needed.

But hey stripping 33 bytes from 43 Kb can add up if you had that much in each of say a 1000 images.
I bet if you did layers and that you get that added code.
