I think RandyG is refering to the example you gave for me ( up a couple of post from here). If you point on it and look at the status bar you will see that it shows the posts per page which one of my earlier attempts did not.
I think that is important to make this work correct. If someone has there preferences set to a different postsperpage than the poster I don't think it will work right

I tried the link you provided, and it overroad my default 40 posts per page to 20, showed page 3, but did not go down to Doyce's A peace symbol posting. It stayed at the top of the page.

Hmmm......I think you have stumbled on to the problem and the solution. The link worked for me as well, again. So, maybe if the per page number is set to the default (20) then it works regardless.
