MacFromOK,

So I was not the only one using Window 95. Right now I sometimes wish this new had 95 on it because not all things work the same way.

John Sparkman and TonyKlein

Hey it says this there.

"C:\Program Files\Zone labs\Zonealarm\zonealarm.exe" -nopopup

The " -nosplash " is not there.
So I will ad the " -nosplash " to it.

You know I never even had a C:\WINDOWS\All Users on my 95 PC till I installed an Paint Shop Pro and it has these but the folders don't have anything in them.
C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Applications Data
C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Desktop

98 has these here.
C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp\ZoneAlarm (shortcut)
Just the one ZoneAlarm (shortcut) here and the two below the folders don't have anything in them.
C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Desktop
C:\WINDOWS\All Users\DRM

What are these folders for?

MacFromOK,

Are you talking about the "start up" folder in the start\program menu. They are all just short cuts so they will still know where to go.

Hiya hewee,

Well, there's only one "Startup" folder, and
although it contains "shortcuts", Windows still
has to find the folder in order to run the programs
when it boots up.

Apparently Windows searches all the Start/Programs
subfolders...

Cheers, Mac

MacFromOK,

Windows must search the Start\program file menu for the start fold name and just knows.

John Sparkman and TonyKlein,

Thanks that worked great and the splash is gone now.

TonyKlein,

You bet John Sparkman this time.

I hate splash sreens that you don't need or can't turn off. So killing them makes me feel good.

For many of them there are tweaks to be found.

This one is for Outlook Express, for example: http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/345/

and this one for Norton Utilities:

TonyKlein,

Thanks

Don't use Outlook Express but do use SystemWorks 2.0. The Norton Utilities Splash Screens all have a box you can check to turn them off.

Hi Hewee,

I don't have System Works.

I do have Utilities, and the Winguides trick does work there.

I don't know what it looks like on your system. You may have a key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec\Norton SystemWorks\Norton Utilities, which is just one more step.

You could experiment with a new string value DisableSplashScreen there.

Good luck,

Hi Hewee
Happy it worked for you and yes Tony beat me to it, but you have to understand Tony never sleeps.

Tony, Thanks for the link to kill OE splash. I lost that information awhile back.

John.

John Sparkman,

Yea it worked great but I did a upgrade of ZA and things went real bad on me.
Will post in "All Other Software"

TonyKlein,

You guys were great but the new trouble was I did not turn off the load at startup on the upgrade so I made a big boo boo.

See ya in "All Other Software" for a fix.

And if you want to get the red and green "meter" back in the system tray rather than the yellow ZA logo you can do this

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ZoneLabs\ZoneAlarm

Change "ShowLogo" to 0
