It's nice to have a fan club once in a while. You know what to say to a lady to make her feel good.

Thanks for the tip re 'newdefrag'. Renamed the old one and installed 'newdefrag'. For the first time I managed to defrag in one go without having to start it again. It was so much quicker.

Do I have to rename 'newdefrag' ? How does the icon in my Quick Launch bar know to start 'newdefrag' instead of 'defrag.old' ? I am assuming it did find it considering how relatively quickly it completed.

Thanks

Lyn

You need to rename Newdefrag.exe to defrag.exe for your shortcuts to work, and in order to be able to run Defrag from a command prompt, of from the 'run' box.

If you have a path to C:\Windows\Defrag.exe in the properties of your Quick Launch shortcut, it shouldn't be able to find your 'Newdefrag.exe' all by itself.

Greetz,
