Question Desktop wallpaper images xed out
Windows xp. My desktop icons have blue boxes around the titles. I have read that html desktop images will cause this to happen. All the choices for desktop wallpaper images no longer have the jpg symbol. They are red x's instead. I believe they are now html somehow. I'm looking for a way to change that. They were completly frozen up until yesterday when I read on here how to change that by deleting a value in registry per info by "Moderator Rollin' Rog" on 28-Apr.-2007 07:30. That freed up the images but still have the blue boxes.

So your jpg's are OK now?

For the boxes, that is just an option. Control Panel > System > Advanced tab. Go through the options and look for drop shadows near the bottom. Make whatever other choices you want.

Thanks for the reply. Drop shadow box is checked, and no, wallpaper images are still xed.

Look through the list. There may be another option that needs to be enabled. Or enable them all and then undo them one at a time.

For the jpg format, try fixing the file association. What program do you use to open jpg's normally?

Okay, none of the boxes are checked. I am actually working on someones computer by remote access. The option " let windows choose whats best for my computer" is chosen. Her jpgs are opening in microsoft office picture manager.

So they are opening in that program all right now? If so, we don't want to change the file association.

If none of the boxes is checked, you will have the boxes. The drop shadows is an advanced feature that requires that the graphic enhancement settings be turned on.

I have done everything I have found to do regarding the color boxes on desktop. I've been into the advanced settings and the use drop shadows for icon labels is checked. The jpg images in Display for choosing desktop pics have red markings over them. I have taken a screen shot of the desktop with the Display property box open. Can I upload it here so someone can look at it and figure out whats going on for me? I haven't got that much hair in the first place, and pulling out any more isnt gonna help.

You can attach it, post it somewhere else and link it, or describe it, I guess .

Can you show the jpg icon, too? You can restore the default jpg file association with this fix, but that means they will open in XP's viewer.

Screenshot
Here is the screen shot. I have done everything that has been suggested on here to solve this problem. The drop shadow box is checked, and all other things that were suggested on here have been done. Originally, it wasnt possible to change the desktop background, as the choices were froze up. It was not possible to choose a new one or even scroll down to see all the selections. Per instructions on here, I was able to delete a value in the registry that freed up this particular problem. That was muchly appreciated. However, the boxes still remain around the icon titles, and those funny red markings on top of the jpg symbol in the background display area are still there.

I'm sorry, but that shot is so fuzzy and the resolution so poor, I can't really see anything.
