At work I spend 7 - 8 hours on the computer, about 3.5 of that is online work.
Then when I get home I spend another 4 hours or so online (a lot of that time right here at TSG!) sometimes more if my insomnia kicks in.

I spend very little time downloading or 'tweeking' my computer. Only do that when I think it needs it.

Cool A lot
A lot.... I use all 4 of my computers pretty much on a regular basis (whether it be viewing my dvd anime on my pc or to doing work I need to get done)... I would say about 6-8hours a day... if not more... I fix computers sometimes for my friends and when I get the money... buy parts from newegg.com to build another pc or just have extra parts around (such as screws and/or fans)

Sorry about that previous post. I composed this response on wordpad, went to copy/paste it to the thread and that was what showed up. Not sure how that happened. Anyway....here is the right one...

B subs me.....
Thanks for your response. Yes, I am shopping for a laptop and posted a separate post about it. I would not be able to build my own system for a number of reasons, but I am sure you are right that it is better. Thanks for the Newegg recommendation. Seems to be popular here. I had never heard of siteadvisor, thanks for the tip. Have no idea what overclocking is..so I will have to look it up.

john...
Thanks, I always wonder which is better norton or mcafee. As for OS, I am still debating. I recently headed to circuit city to see their computers and got a look at the vista. After having played with my daughter's macbook for the past three weeks, I have to say, xp and vista seem a lot alike. I was hoping the vista would have a really different look from the old xp, but I didn't find it to be that great a departure. The Leopard on the Mac is quite different and interesting. I am sure the Vista has a lot of good things 'under the hood' so to speak though. I tried reading up on it some and I see there is some type of disk encryption in the ultimate version. I am going to have to have to google that when I get a minute to see what that is all about.

Stoner....
I can see where a bad tech experience would drive anyone to learn more for their own survival. [g] I think this is a very knowledgeable site and everyone seems to have very advanced skills. I put in as much time as I can but I still have lots of gaps. I think it takes huge amounts of time. I know when I started in '95 I spent most of my time on the computer trying to figure out what I was doing. I took a basics Intro to Computers class at college ages ago. It actually amazes me how much time it does take.

anisbd....
That is a lot of time on a computer. You must really love computers to work at them all day and then still feel like doing more when you get home. I think most people understand how easily you can spend five hours on a computer.

idar....
I can identify with that. I am up in the night sometimes too and so happy to have a computer at that time of night. :-)

WLord...
That is a lot of computers. Sounds like you have found your nich. :-)

Thank you all for the responses. Lots of advanced computer users on this site. Certainly gives me a good perspective of where my own time/experience fits.
