should i buy windows or a mac.... r/o
i know windows is more vulnerable to attack but it is cheaper than a mac...also salesman said that windows is completely revamping os within a few years..

but you can't beat the price and if i get mac i would have to spring for windows office suite for mac. (to keep in sync w/ the rest of the world)

why do i need this? because i may be getting a telecommunting position

I'd be looking at the types of systems in use at the company you work for. If they're a Windows shop, then I'd buy a Windows machine.

If they want you to have a computer, why don't they provide it? At least they must have a recommended configuration that you should get to be consistent with the rest of the company.

Actually, just because you're telecommuting, that doesn't mean your choice of operating environments isn't important. Many times, companies will want you to use O/S specific applications for their projects. I've had contracts where I had to have a Unix machine to do the development and testing, and others where they used Windows specific software for my work.

I agree with JohnWill. Do a little research and find out what the majority of users in your new company are using. There are many applications which run on PCs that will not run on Macs, but very few the other way around. Also, if you are telecommuting via browser, check and see if the company is standardized on IE6 or IE7 which is unavailable on Mac OS X.
