Simplest things can make a world of difference in Troubleshooting!
!. Power down you pc or laptop.
2. Unplug the power source.
3. In a desktop, open the case and make sure all ram/ pci cards, fans, cables are snug and installed correctly.
4. Components should be free of dust especially system fans and video card that have fans.. Also check power supply for dust.
5. Recheck that ram modules are properly seated as well as video cards, processors, cables, plugs and such before closing the case. In laptops get a can of airduster and spray into the intake while the system is running and watch the dust come out the side.
6. Plug the system ONLY to your keyboard, mouse, and monitor. And of course power. Leave all external devices detached such as webcams, external drives, wacom tablets, rocket launchers and othe geek gear.

That is very true, btw.

Several times I have seen a computer having some issues, and the problems were solved after the IDE cables were plugged harder =)
