Maybe a mod will move this to another forum after a while, but for all you regulars who might be interested...

Tech Candy - A Free Full Featured Answering Machine For Your PC

Requires a voice modem

fonXL Call Display v1.0.2 [308k] W9x/2k/XP FREE

http://www.voicecallcentral.com/download/fonxl.exe
http://www.fonxl.com/screensaver.htm

{Who keeps calling?} This is a screen saver, but it's also something else. A muffin pan? Uh, no. It's a call display unit. When you receive a call, this "screensaver plus" app will notify you instantly. It's like having caller ID right on your desktop; you can see the name and the phone number of whoever is calling. The current time (and time of the call) is also displayed. You can change its background image, too. "The number display window can be dragged to any part of your desktop."

Also available from the site: Advanced Call Center - "a full-featured answering machine for your voice modem. All necessary functions are supported: Caller ID lets you see and hear who's calling via screen pop-ups, distinctive rings, call recording, and caller's name announcement with speech synthesis. 'Black' and 'white' list functions filter calls based on caller database, call origin and other parameters."

Cheers !!

I saw some call center thing advertized on the TV yesterday...claimed you could use it and phone and compute at the same time...made by Emmerson and was $20.00 !

Anyone seen this add, and is this possible ?...sounds fishy to me...Rhett

I've seen that ad, too. Looks to good to be true, doesn't it? Sure would be nice.

In the meantime, I use Pagoo. It acts as an answering maching while you are online and automatically pops up the caller's message. What I like best about it is it allows you to create your own message - just like a regular answering machine. So when people call me, they don't know I'm online (resulting in my not feeling like I have to go offline immediately to call them back!)

I saw it as well, yes it does sound to good to be true, but:
I work in the telecomunications industry and I know that you can, shall we say multi-task the crap out of a phone line, even though most of the phone companies wouldnt admit that to you.
I think that it is only meant for short phone-calls and that it, while keeping you online minimizes the internet connection almost to the point on disconnect, and as long as the call doesnt last a long time, that it can boost it again once the call is done, but I dont see how it would work with a long call....

Just My Opinion
