Solved: Any Tips on Speed
I've had my laptop for a little over a year now, and it's been running great...until now. It's starting to get a little slower and I've discovered a few viruses (They're gone now). I just wanted to know, are there any ways to speed up my laptop, any programs or any tips and tricks I should use to speed it up?

Thanks for the posts!

Defrag it once a month and don't run Office or a full internet security suite, just anti virus. Use Spybot and adaware on demand instead. Check you have enough available disk space for the virtual memory and run a regfix utility. Microsoft do a free one.

You will find that most people would suggest staying away from any registry programs because if a person isn't VERY careful, he can really trash their system.

are you running out of h/disk space? if so free some.
also if you dont mind your icons/taskbar being not quite as pretty, right click on my computer>properties>advanced>performance settings>select adjust windows for best performance.
type in msconfig at the run prompt, lookin startup and remove any programs that you dont need to automatically startup.
if you have the h/disk space set the min and max of your pagefile to 3x the amount of ram you have installed.

Defrag your computer once every two months also you could clean your temporary files so your internet will work faster, try to reduce your startup programs, type msconfig in the run box and go to the startup tab then choose what programs do you want to start when you start your computer; i hope this helps good luck.

Actually you are right. I should have said backup the registry in advance and make sure you know how to do this and restore the registry if required.
