explorer.exe problem
I recently upgraded my old win98se to win2000 pro and installed its sp4. My explorer short cut on the desktop and on the accessories menu kept showing me the My Documents folder. When I looked in the windows folder, system 32, the two explorer references also yielded the MY Documents folder. After attempting numerous fixes I discovered that the cause of the problem was that the service pack sp4 in win 2000 has a reference to explorer, and it always refers back to My Documents. I discovered this anomoly through a search in my winxp computer explorer entries. The blue explorer entries are references to the service pack folder in Windows.
The correction for this problem was as follows: I ran system file checker (sfc.exe) on the command line of my win 2000 and it checked and removed any inappropriate files from my original installations of Win2k and its sp4. When I checked back on the Windows system 32 file the two explorer entries were no longer there! Then when I ran a search on Win2k explorer , I found that the explorer entry, the one whose shortcut shows a magnifying glass not the one showing a computer, referenced the Windows Command folder. When I hit this entry it revealed the correct explorer folder and not the My Documents folder. The explorer.exe was therefore in the Windows Command file of my particular configuration not in the System 32.
If you look in the win command file on my computer you willl not see any entry for explorer just as you wont see any entry in the system32 folder/
I believe this problem stemmed from the upgrades I made to my Win98se.
