I have found several "case filters" which are nothing more than metal mesh. I am wondering can I take the blue filters that you would use in an actual home central air unit, cut it to fit the case fans and affix it, either on the back of the case or in between fans and case?
The computer I am replacing is filled with dust and I want to avoid this in the computer i'm building next week. I am not sure if the fans will be strong enough to pull the proper amount of air through the filter and cool. I plan to have the two case fans blowing inward.
Thanks. | | Distinguished Member with 2,476 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: West"By God" Virginia Experience: continuing to learn. | | I use the cloth types for the Swiffer sweeper. | | Moderator with 96,685 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2002 Location: South Eastern PA, USA Experience: Advanced age & experience | | One issue is that unless you regularly clean these filters, you'll do more harm than good with them. They'll pretty quickly become clogged with dirt and cut off almost all the airflow. | | Distinguished Member with 2,476 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: West"By God" Virginia Experience: continuing to learn. | | Less expensive, faster, and easier than cutting an AC type filter. | | Junior Member with 29 posts. | | Join Date: Feb 2008 Experience: Intermediate | | how do they attach? are they just stuck on the outside of the case? | | Distinguished Member with 2,476 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: West"By God" Virginia Experience: continuing to learn. | | Duct tape on the inside is less visible, but outside is easier to do. | | Distinguished Member with 14,282 posts. | | Join Date: Nov 2001 Location: Republic of Texas Experience: Advanced | | Quote:

I'm about ready to chunk the elements. I figure with enough air flow most of the the dust will just pass thru and out the rear and top exhaust fans. My cleaning internal maintenance (period between cleanings) is no different on this case than my cases with no filters (actually more frequent just cleaning the media on the filters).. | | Moderator with 96,685 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2002 Location: South Eastern PA, USA Experience: Advanced age & experience | | I rest my case.
FWIW, I tried filters on a computer years ago, and I had the same experience. | | Distinguished Member with 2,476 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: West"By God" Virginia Experience: continuing to learn. | | OK, Mr. Prosecutor. We'll go quietly. | THIS THREAD HAS EXPIRED.
