Solved: Cleaning Up Unused Files
Hello. I've had a lot of games and misc junk on the computer from the kids. Now that they are older, a lot of this stuff gets deleted. I wonder if there is a lot of leftover junk that doesn't get deleted and if it clutters up the machine. Should I worry about this, and how do I get rid of old unused stuff? Thank you for your help.

there are lots of 'general' cleanup tips and suggestions, however the best way to clean up a pc is to do a restore, doing that puts the unit back to what it was when it came from the factory, do remember to backup and save your personal info such as pics, music, and so on

however you've left us guessing what you have for a pc - is it a 'big-box' store unit - or is it a 'custom-built' without a 'restore partition' -
if you post back with some specs either on your personal page - in your sig line - in the post where you are asking for help with:
big-box brand - make - model - os -
custom-built - motherboard - os

Hello again
Yes, its a store brand box unit, and it does have the restore, but I would be afraid to do that, and probably (to be honest) too lazy to recreate all I've customized over the years. I don't think I've let the machine get that nasty to warrant it. I was just curious of what was out there for maintenance in that regard. I'm running XP and do the usual deleting of temporary stuff, history, unused programs and files etc. How much do I have to worry about what's left behind from deleted programs etc?

if you're doing all that, i really wouldn't worry much about it then,

you might try ccleaner - it is able to find a lot of 'junk' on a pc which seems to be safe to get rid of - but DON'T SET IT TO DO ANY REGISTRY CLEANING -

the general consensus on this forum is that's a no-no - there are a FEW who like to play in the registry - and for those who are experienced and do....
