Unhappy Solved: Lost all my pictures
I made a huge mistake and thought I had transfered my "pictures" to a file and then deleted the original "my pictures". I have lost everything!! because everything I was doing was going just right, I promptly "Emptied" the Recycle Bin and now I'm just distraught! Is there any hope of restoring this file?? I tried "System Restore" but that didn't do it?? Can anyone help me?? Thanks (I have Windows XP and use Internet Explorer)

Wink lost my pics
Bichey, Thanks...I think I'd need some type of external drive or disk to restore these pics to, if this solution you've suggested does work, But my CD burner is broken...so I'll try to get an external hard drive for back-up and will then try your solution. I Thank you so much for your suggestion and I really hope it works. Thanks again

louie,
welcome to tech support guy,

one big thing you need to keep in mind when trying to recovery ANYTHING on a drive that has been 'LOST' or 'DELETED' - no 'information' is ever 'GONE' - UNTIL THAT SPACE IS OVERWRITTEN - sooooo - the big thing you don't want to do now is to continue to use the pc which in turn uses the HARDDRIVE - OVERWRITING the space where the 'old info' was with 'new info'

that is the HOW the 'secure' file deleting programs work - they make xx number of passes either writing 1's and 0's or the better ones even use some other random sequence of numbers / letters to OVERWRITE the whole drive

thus ANY 'USE' of your pc is going to make the recovery of that info that much more difficult - the MORE you use it - the LESS you can recover....

so the 'sooner' you make your attempt - the better your chances are

well louie, now that's TWO of us 'smart guys' telling you to 'quit-playin' with that thing' - what are you continuing to use it for???

'nother thought also, one of our 'notorius' members on the forums has a saying:
info you don't have two copies of is info you don't care about
[courtesy johnwill] [not a quote -just from memory]

all joking aside, sir, good luck to you in recovering those pics, memories are a terrible thing to lose,

The exact quote...

Remember: Data you don't have at least two copies of is data you don't care about.

You really do want to minimise any disk activity until you've tried to recover the deleted pictures. Remember internet browsing creates loads of temporary files that may get written right over the data of your 'deleted' files.

Use another computer to search out a solution, download it, save it to a USB memory stick, plug that in the computer concerned and run it from there. That helps minimise disk activity without going too extreme (and costly).

see http://www.recoverdeletedpictures.com for more info.

When I'm faced with a situation like this, I normally go for an exact sector-by-sector image backup of the disk using a bootable CD. This allows me the luxury of trying several methods of recovery in case the first one doesn't work.

Yes, but if people did regular system backups, the traffic in this place would be about half.

I want to thank everyone that helped in the "recovery" process and let them know it DID work! I will be glad to donate to the site but ask for their patience as I'm losing my home and am also out of work. I hope and prey this is temporary but none the less, want to express my appreciation for everyones help. This is a great site. Thanks again, Lude Louie

I think putting a roof over your head and finding a new job comes before donating here.

take care, the best,
daniel
