W98 Defrag Fix
I know that WME defrag is faster and can be installed in 98 but here is a fix that works also. My defrag went from 1 hour or more to 20 minutes or less. It took about 3 or 4 defrags before it got to this point.

Here is the W98 defrag fix . Reboot after putting it in the registry , takes a couple of runs to get it up to speed .
( Copy the text into Notepad, save it in Windows with the .REG
extension, then right-click on it in Explorer and select Merge )

-----Begin cut & paste here-------

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Defrag]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Defrag \AppStartParams]
"ExcludeFiles"="SYSTEM.DAT\\USER.DAT\\SYSTEM.INI\\WIN.INI"
"UseProfile"=dword:00000001
"MaxNoUseDays"=dword:0000005a
"MaxApps"=dword:00000046
"MinLogSize"=dword:000002b

------End cut & paste here------

Question Yea but...
I'm sure that is a good fix Deke , but the me defrag can be d/l in a zip file that installs itself and defrags my h/d in about 9 minutes ! It seems like a better option ? ...Rhett

PS HERE is a link to the zip file..scroll down...directions included within the zip file

Defrag Tip
Rhett

I have known about the WME Defrag for awhile but I just like to do things without downloading a lot. But your reply gave me the impetus to go ahead an try WME Defrag. Works great. Had a little trouble because I couldn't find the readme.txt without opening the zip file but everything worked out. I will nuke my Defrag Fix Tip. Thanks for the shove I needed.

Deke...

"I will nuke my Defrag Fix Tip" ... hey now don't think that it needs to be stuffed in the trashcan or nuked really, it's not a bad tip and there is some purists out there that may want to keep the original as original as possible... like re-storing a classic car if you know what I mean.

....thing is rhett's right ... and WME Defrag "jams" ... think of it like putting a fresh "new motor" into that early model restored car not excactly for the purist at heart... but .... we'll you'll see it just flat out jams.

btw I'm enjoying the other tips that you've posted here too

I have installed the id# trick you posted, and
DarkStar stated "I'm enjoying the other tips that you've posted here too".

But since I don't know a much about a lot of things.
I couldn't pass up the chance to post about 1 thing I knew something about ...Rhett
