How do you....?
When the Favorite free tools thread was started someone showed how the thread in it's entity could be saved to your hard drive. when opened all the text was present without the pictures. As well I believe it appeared as an icon in the file, it was a long time ago and I am not sure of that part.
Does anyone know how this was done?

I apologize in advance if this is not the right forum for the question, I do know that string is the right one.

Hmmmm... to show the text, without the pretty pics, probably they told users to click the "Show Printable version" button at top, under the Thread Tools drop down menu.....

Not sure about opening the entire thread as one long text.....

You, click on the "Show Printable Version" entry after you click on the "Thread Tools" button, up at the top of the forum page when you are reading a post.....it will open in plain text, it's basically an easier way to print.... that is the only way I would know of to see the thread material in text with no pictures, ads, etc.

As for the other thing you asked about, probably it was directions for you to save the webpages as an .htm file onto your hard drive.....offline browsing etc.

At the top of the window, under the File tab, click on Save As.....either way, single file or entire webpage.....save to my documents or any other folder....when you click on it, it will open just as if you were actually here reading the thread. However....it will stay as of the time and date you saved it, so keep that in mind, it will not update itself.....

When you click on "Save As...." down in the middle line , click the drop down arrow...... one entry there to save the file as, is Text file , which may explain the first part of your question....?

There are some freewares posted in the thread that deal with saving webpages..... you might be able to use the Search feature of our site to find that post, or just leaf through the posts....there are 120 pages, I know. You just have to learn, and you should Bookmark or place in Favorites, pages that you want to save....

After you find the right utility to make clips or excerpts....of webpages, you will be in better shape...I used to to use a few....clipboard enhancers, excellent for saving odds and ends of text and links from webpages....

Here are some>>>> http://www.nonags.com/nonags/clipb.html

I think I may have solved this question. First, I switched back to I.E. from fire Fox. Next I went to File > Save As> Web Achive, single file (*.mht). In the Save As Type: Field.

Thank You for your help it has been years since I tried this, this attempt all the pictures were here as well.

You can also print pages to a PDF file, there are many free products to do this, including http://www.allwaysync.com/and BullZip PDF Printer, both of which I've personally used.
