Yes they have the Ask Toolbar on there other paid software so why not on the free software.

Installers Hall of Shame (Unwanted add-on)
Nero Burning Rom or Nero 9 Essentials - Ask Toolbar

Plus look at the TERMS that are not at the download that you have to gave them a email address that says...
Register now to receive the Nero News and stay up to date with the latest tips, special offers, and technology info from Nero
Wow that sounds like lots of spam to me and will you get even more from 3rd party's? No terms so you do not know and anyone who put the malware Ask on your computer to me can not be trusted.

I had downloaded that free version and upon learning of that tool bar that installed by default, secretly, deleted it.
Makes me wonder if anything else was put in there that's undisclosed.

Sorry for the bum steer to the freebie I posted. Still though, it is free and that means whatever comes with it. I don't need any burning software but I posted the link for those who don't have such software. Nero is good ( I still use version 6) but I did not think that they had stooped that low to install the Ask Bar without providing an OPT OUT. Had I seen the one review someone wrote about the software, I would not have posted it without pointing that out. Guess Nero has been feeling the crunch in sales also what with so many other apps. available.

Not so much that they feel the crunch in sales but Ask will pay so much that so many "Give In" to them because they get so much money.

Bill of WinPatrol was asked twice and turned them down both times but if he took the money he could of stopped working the rest of his life he said.

Bits from Bill: No, I Don't Want Your #^$% Toolbar

I agree! Clearly, I've been trying too many free programs and not reading the fine print!

Come on...JohWill, is that pic a joke (photo-shopped maybe ?) ?? I have had some customers bring in their systems with 2 or 3 "took bars on IE. Call them and ask them, do you really need these.

Damn, I love that pic. I'm going to print it out and post it by my workbench. It may have been altered, but I get some machines in that are almost as bad.

I have zero tool bars on my browsers, they are useless and only get in the way! Obviously, that's not my system.

John that looks like there was NO ROOM for the ASK TOOLBAR.

But you do have a toolbar on you IE still but not the added toolbars.
Toolbar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The bad ones are the Web browser toolbar add-ons

I never even use and I hide the build in search that Firefox has.
Would do the same on IE but I see no way to hide it but I only use it for MS updates anyway and got all cookies block.

In a way Microsoft is playing the same type game some of the others play by downloading what you don't want.

I don't use Automatic Update, I have MS notify me, but not download and install anything. A few months ago MS listed IE 8 as a criical update. So I get the message you have updates ready to download and install, click on the balloon to download and install the updates. I don't click on MS's balloon I got straight to the update site and IE 8 is listed as a critical update and is ready to download and install. I do the old "don't show me this again" trick and download and install the other updates.

Everything is fine for a few weeks, then last week I get the message; You have updates ready to download and install, click on the balloon, blah, blah, blah. I go to the update site and MS has killed my "don't show me this again" and has IE 8 ready to download and install. I go through the same routine I went through before and tell them, "don't show me this update again".

If I hadn't gone to Windows Update, and I had just clicked on the balloon I would have gotten IE 8 whether I wanted it or not.
