The reason they do that for 2.5" drives is it's just a case with a single chip, no power supply required.

Mine came in today, nice aluminum case, well designed, the best I have seen over the years. Drive is in and all is working well. Not bad for $6, and shipped to my door via USPS.

I am waiting for a $50 terabyte thumbdrive, might be a few more years.
