Smile Yahoo & webcams
I was trying to view a parties webcam on yahoo messenger. They saw my cam after inviting them, but they couldn't invite me, cause they said that their camera does not work in yahoo. Is this possilbe? I thought all webcams or any cam can be viewed. Aside from that, they gave me a link where I can sign up, pay $5 to get a username. I think its called webcam.com site. Now, in the past i had no problem exchanging video's with other parties, with my sign in name in Yahoo. I don't recall if i ever assigned a username or was offered a form to do so when i originally set yahoo up. Regardless, why was i able to view others with my sign in name and not this party? Sorry, if this is the wrong area...i thought maybe tips are in order for a situation as mine.

You should not have to signup and pay for video chat, I'd ignore that "great" idea.

I used to use Yahoo chat for video, but since I've started using Skype, I have abandoned the Yahoo client. Skype has far better performance and audio clarity.

yahoo and webcam
I have Skype, but unfortunatly everytime i am asked to cam for one reason or another, the other party does not have skype..they suggest yahoo or msn. Skype is notorious in not getting back to you if there is a problem, which i have. I get hundreds of alerts from their forum from almost every person that uses it. I never requested them, i asked them to get it to stop and it gets ignored. each time i get on my pc i have to check my spam folder, where i moved them to and delete them

With Skype, you simply make your on-line status invisible and then you won't get as many notifications.

I found that Yahoo had terrible performance compared to Skype with video calls, so bad that they were frequently unusable.

Skype uses their servers to do the initial handshake, then establishes a peer connection between the two computers. Yahoo has all the traffic go through their server. The difference for video is very noticeable.

I don't even have skype opened so how would they know that i am online as you say? Personally, they both have faults in my opinion. If you know of a way that i can stop that barrage of alerts daily, i may be tempted to use it again

If you have Skype in the system tray, and you don't have your status set as invisible, they know you're online.

In that case, you must simply be targeted by SPAMMERS. I get maybe one a week of the offers to view some webcam. From the sounds of it, it's someone that's trying to get me to pay for porn, but I just block them when they occur.

NO,no,no...never been approached for porn video. these are legit members of skype from various areas entering a message and alerting me if i'm interested, go to them. I personally had put them into my spam folder so i could deleted them all at once...sometimes there are 15 to 20 of them with different user names coming from skype.

Anyone that contacts you with Skype has a legitimate Skype address, or they couldn't contact you.

I agree, but never did i ask 30 or 40 of them to alert me via email daily sometimes twice a day or each time i boot up. Whe i first had setup SKYPE, i clicked on the box where it says "Do you want to notified when someone responds to your post." I said yes, but the rub is, that i never had put a post in there for someone to respond to...so how come i am getting so many alerts as they are called via email? I went back to that area, unchecked that box, and it does no good, nor is their support.. It is a british site i believe
