Not that I know of, but I will recommend that you reseat everything, and I do mean everything. The power surge, in some boards, causes a feedback loop that sort of disables your motherboard. It is a security feature, much like a fuse. reseating everything restes it.

Do you have any links to this? What is reset? I have never heard of anything like this before

I've been searching for something on that, but can't find it.

So, why did I say that in such a way as to make it sound I knew what I was talking about???

I, in a moment of shear stupidity, connected a hard drive to a PC that was still powered on!!! This blew the Power supply, or so I thought. I smelled smoke, and a burnt rubbery electrical smell. I contacted Gateway support, and they agreed that it was probably blown, and since I worked there, I was able to wrangle a replacement Power supply from them, even thoguh I was the idiot that caused it. When I got the new power supply, i connected it up, and nothing happened. Back onto Gateway support.

They figured that I must have blown the motherboard, and there was no way I could wrangle one of those from them. Since a good friend of mine was head of the Tech Lab for Tech support, i brought the PC in, with both Power supplies, and asked him to see if he could do anything with it. He proceeded to pull everything out of it, then put it all back in, with the original power supply. Cha-ching, the durn thing booted up with no probs.

He explained to me what I tried, in my limited fashion, to explain above. One thing I can say, is that this was not the simple case of just a loose connection, but a function that pertained to the motherboard. I thought this might have been the case, cause I remember some of the older 486 systems actually had a motherboard fuse that wopuld blow, and prevent you from frying your Mobo. That is why I brought it to him.

I truly am sorry that I could find no verifiable material on this for you.

Well, glad you sorted it out. Sometimes if it looks like a blown power supply, and smells like a blown power supply, it really is a blown power supply!

Thanx for getting back to us.
